The ring of the Nibelung (Der Ring des Nibelungen(, in German) is a cycle of four operas epic, composed by Richard Wagner based loosely on figures and elements of Germanic mythology, particularly the Icelandic Sagas. These operas are The Rhine gold (Das Rheingold), The Valkyrie (Die Walküre), Siegfried (Siegfried) and The twilight of the gods (Götterdämmerung). The libretto and the music were written by Richard Wagner in the course of twenty-six years, from 1848 to 1874.
In German, des Nibelungen It is the masculine singular genitive of the noun Nibelung weak decline, i.e., means 'of the Nibelung'. The Nibelung to which the title refers is the dwarf Alberich.

The ring has been adapted to comics by artist P. Craig Russellknown for its adaptations of operas to the comic. Russell adapts the cycle with a sophisticated, creating (for example) Visual parallels to the leitmotif of Richard Wagner with repeated images.
